The Costs
The sad thing is that the current policy makes it impossible for some of our children to reconcile their essence with their religion. The consequences are traumatic, sometimes deadly.
The experience of Bishop Harding's family illustrates what it is like if one of your loved ones happens to be gay and LDS.

I agree with his wish that the general authorities would own up publicly to the fact that there are many things we do not understand.
I have a young friend much like the young man described in this letter. He's always been a little different from other boys. I don't know if he's openly gay now or not. I'm totally mystified.
But God does make mistakes. He makes mistakes all the time. Boys are born with female genitalia, and vice versa. Don't they now have a way to determine through blood tests?
This is something I totally do not understand. But I applaud Bishop Hardy's courage in writing the letter.
And I apologize for the light tone I took about Brokeback Mountain. It actually ends very badly.
